NSLHD is proud to present the GradStart program at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai, Royal North Shore, Ryde and Mona Vale Hospitals as well as Northern Sydney Home Nursing Service and our Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Services.

Nursing and midwifery at NSLHD is responsive to contemporary challenges and trends in healthcare.  Our facilities and services are fortunate to have skilled and supportive staff providing a dynamic learning environment, allowing newly registered nurses and midwives to become safe and competent practitioners.  Your GradStart experience will be facilitated through interaction with key support people throughout the year, preparing you for the diverse professional world of nursing and midwifery that you are entering.

How do I apply?

Applications for the 2021 GradStart intake open at 9am on Wednesday 24 June and close at 4pm on Monday 13 July 2020. You must apply through NSW Health's centralised recruitment process. A link to the application portal will be provided on Wednesday 24 June 2020 on NSW Health's GradStart information page.


When will interviews be held?

Interviews will take place from Monday 10 August to Friday 16 October 2020.    

Please be assured physical distancing protocols will be adhered to throughout the interview process.


What programs and intakes are available at NSLHD?

The following intakes are available at NSLHD:

  • February:  Midwifery (Royal North Shore Hospital, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital); ICU and Perioperative Streams (Royal North Shore Hospital)
  • March:  NICU (Royal North Shore Hospital); General Streams (Royal North Shore Hospital, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, Mona Vale Hospital, Ryde Hospital); Ryde/Cooma Hospital Metro/Rural Exchange; Community Health/General Exchange; Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Nursing
  • July:  General Streams (Royal North Shore Hospital, Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, Ryde Hospital); Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol Nursing  


Can I nominate my clinical preferences?

You will be asked to nominate your clinical preferences when you are invited to interview with us. When we allocate you to a placement, we will try to take your clinical preferences into account as much as possible.
