Eligibility
- On the waitlist for total knee or total hip replacement surgery at Hornsby Hospital
- Referral from Hornsby Hospital orthopaedic surgeon for conservative management of OA
- Clients residing in the Hornsby area who have been referred for OACCP from the Hornsby Hospital orthopaedic follow up clinic or Royal North Shore orthopaedic clinic by an orthopaedic registrar or specialist.
Referral
No referral required if client's are on the surgical waitlist.
OACCP or GP referral to be supplied for all others.
Other Information
This is a service geared towards optimising the management of individuals suffering from knee or hip osteoarthritis. This can be for individuals on the elective hip/knee joint replacement lists or individuals who do not yet require surgical intervention.
The program involves an initial comprehensive assessment by the OACCP coordinator who is a physiotherapist. Following this, individuals may be referred to see other allied health staff who work within the program including dietitian, social work and occupational therapist. Individuals may also be referred for group exercise classes such as hydrotherapy, tai chi or falls prevention classes The program runs for 12 months and involves being seen once every three months for ongoing support, management and progression of the client's treatment plan.
