Child and Family Health Centre (CFHC) services are free and are offered on a one-to-one basis (either drop-in or appointment) or through group sessions, telephone consultation/ counselling and home visiting. CFHC provide support and information on parenting issues for 0-5 years through individual clinic appointments, group programmes and information sessions.

  • Breastfeeding advice and support through Breast Feeding Drop-in Clinics or by appointment. (Monday: 9.30am – 11.30am or Thursday: 9.30am – 11.30am)
  • Support and information on any parenting issues for children up to 5 years of age

  • Group programs: A range of group programs and information sessions are conducted throughout the service. For example: support groups for new parents, toddler issues, age specific information and treatment groups for parents experiencing Post Natal Depression.

  • Home visiting.

  • Telephone Consultations

  • Information and referral to other services

Using the personal health record (PHR), or 'Blue Book' parents are encouraged to attend their local CFHC or GP for regular health checks following birth, 1-4 weeks, 6-8 weeks, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years and 4 years.  Problems identified but not able to be resolved at this level can be referred to the next level of service, the Family Care Centres.

Families with children aged 0-5 years.

Referral

For Universal Child and Family Health services, no referral is required. Please telephone your local CFHC for telephone support or to make an appointment with a Child and Family Health nurse. Phone number: 02 9998 6260

Referral is required to access secondary services.  Referrals can be made to the Family Care Centre by Child and Family health nurse, midwife or GP. Phone number: 02 9951 0321

Urgent cases

Your general practitioner (GP) or family doctor is the person to see if your child is sick, or if you have any concerns about your child's wellbeing. In case of a medical emergency, go to hospital.

Within business hours, families can contact their CFHC to discuss concerns such as breastfeeding.
