Research

The Neurogenetics Department maintains a clinical and research facility in the Kolling Institute, to provide diagnostic support to our clinic as well as investigate the pathogenic mechanisms involved in these neurogenetic disorders. We are developing stem cell based models of neurogenetic disease that will be used to further understand the cellular mechanisms that lead to neurodegeneration. Clinical studies are aimed supporting and improving diagnostic methods, identifying factors that can predict disease progression and severity and the identification of new therapeutic targets.

There are opportunities for patients in the neurogenetics clinics to participate in our research programs.

Eligibility

The neurogenetics clinics are tertiary referral clinics and in most cases a specialist referral is necessary.

Referral

Referrals may be made to the neurogenetics clinics by completing a letter of referral, including patient details, clinical detail and previous test results.

The patient will be contacted to schedule an appointment once the referral has been received and has gone through the triage process.
