The PECC is a specialist short stay mental health unit co-located in the Emergency Department (ED). It has four beds and is similar to a small ward.

The length of stay in the PECC is up to 48 hours, providing an opportunity for assessment, close observation, and treatment to support clinical stabilisation.

The staff in the PECC are also responsible for managing and allocating all out of hours referrals to the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai adult Mental Health Service, in conjunction with the Acute Care Team. Follow up on discharge from this unit is provided by the Acute Care Team.
