Social Work is an integral part of patient services at the Northern Beaches Health Service. Social Workers are available to assist inpatients/carers and their families through a crisis or illness by providing counselling and clinical interventions, emotional and practical support and providing information on services to assist clients.
The AASW defines Social work as "a profession committed to helping people achieve the best possible levels of personal and social well-being."
Social Workers require a Social Work Degree and must be eligible for membership of the AASW.
Social workers may provide the following services:
- comprehensive psychosocial assessments
- crisis support following sudden death, trauma, domestic violence, sexual assault, child protection, elder abuse
- assessment and early intervention for families
- grief and bereavement
- community service co-ordination
- accommodation issues
- group work.
