Who We Are

The Family Care Centre's Psychology service is a secondary referral service provided by NSW Health, for families living in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Area. We provide psychological assessment, treatment and referral services to expectant parents and/or parents with children aged 0-2 years.

What We Do

The Family Care Centre Psychology service provides short term, goal-focused intervention. We often see families for a range of issues. Common issues include:

  • Perinatal depression and anxiety
  • Helping parents look after their emotional health during pregnancy and early parenthood
  • Processing the impact of previous grief and loss on current pregnancies or parenting journeys
  • Preparing parents emotionally for the birth of their baby
  • Helping parents think about the type of parent they want to be
  • Processing birth experiences and birth trauma
  • Adjustment to parenting
  • Enhancing the parent-infant relationship
  • Helping parents understand their infant's emotional needs

Referral Process

The Family Care Centre Psychology Service is free for individuals living within the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai hospital catchment area and those who have a current Medicare card

  • Clients can be referred at any time during the antenatal or postnatal period (until their child is 2 years old)
  • If you would like a referral to the psychology service, please talk to your Child and Family Health Nurse or Healthcare Professional
