Have you tried to quit smoking but not yet succeeded?
You aren't alone! Two out of three smokers who try to quit on their own go back to smoking within two weeks. However, all is not lost!
We can help you quit.
You are invited to join our new audio-visual based quit smoking program being trialled by our team at Sydney's Royal North Shore Hospital, and conducted over the internet.
What is our new approach?
We know that smoking is a leading cause of heart disease and heart attacks. We also know that six out of 10 smokers quit immediately after having a heart attack. Our aim is to help you to stop smoking and to PREVENT a heart attack.
Our team has developed a new approach where images of you and your family appear in your own personalised video. You will be able to see what it would be like if you really did have a heart attack and the consequences this would bring to you and your loved ones.
Our initial published results are excellent, with 54% of participants having quit and still not smoking after 6 months.
Throughout the process our experienced team will provide you with strategies and tools to help you quit. And with regular mobile phone messages and calls, you will never be without support.
How much does it cost?
The program is free. You will be reimbursed with a $40 voucher once you have completed the program.
Where and how?
We understand that you are busy and it is not always practical or convenient to attend face-to-face appointments. A huge benefit of this program is that everything is conducted online. That means no running around to hospitals or clinics for you! The video conference system is simple and explained further in our information sheets. For more details please read the Participant Information Sheet.
If you would like to participate, please complete the Screening Questionnaire or contact us directly at NSLHD-Quitnow@health.nsw.gov.au
