Director of Nursing Jacqui Edgley and NBHS Redevelopment Change Manager Patricia Norton also took part in the visit, meeting with doctors and nurses who had transitioned from an emergency department to an urgent care centre.
Ms Edgley said it was good to see how the urgent care centre at Wauchope was functioning four years down the track.
“The clinicians we spoke to felt the urgent care centre had helped them provide care for minor injuries and illness in a more timely fashion.
“We learnt more about the training and education provided to staff, with all registered nurses required to complete the first line emergency care course. Staff were also given the opportunity to be seconded to other hospitals, ensuring they maintained their emergency medicine skills.
Dr Ratchford welcomed the chance to visit the urgent care centre.
“It was really helpful to speak with the staff about the model of care and day-to- day operation of the UCC at Wauchope, as we prepare to provide a similar service for the community on the Mona Vale campus later this year.”
Mona Vale Hospital’s urgent care centre will open when acute services move to Northern Beaches Hospital this year.
