Foundations of the future laid

A significant milestone occured at Mona Vale Hospital this week with the first concrete pour for the inpatient Geriatric Evaluation Management (GEM) and inpatient Palliative care unit.

The first part of the ground floor concrete slab has been poured, with the remainder of the ground floor slab and commencement of framing for the building to follow.

Mona Vale Hospital General Manager Jacqui Edgley said it was exciting to see the works progress.

"Now that the first major concrete pour for the ground floor is in, we will really start to see the new building take shape," she said.

"This building will be a valuable addition to our campus, supporting the needs of the Northern Beaches community."

The design for the 10 bed palliative care service and 10 bed geriatric evaluation and management unit will take advantage of the peaceful coastal location, allowing for a comfortable setting for patients.

The unit is due for completion in 2020.
