​About the program

Healthy and Active for Life Online is a FREE 10-week healthy lifestyle program for older adults.

  • The program helps participants learn how to make small lifestyle changes to improve health.
  • It covers a range of topics including healthy eating and physical activity.
  • Participants do not need any prior knowledge or exercise experience to join. In fact, the program is more suited to those who would be considered beginners to physical activity/exercise.

    Who is it for?

    Healthy and Active for Life Online is for adults who:
    • Are aged 60 years and over, or Aboriginal people aged 45+
    • Do not participate in a regular exercise program
    • Live independently in the community (i.e. not in a nursing home)
    • Are able to walk safely inside their home without a walking aid.

    How does it work?

    Healthy and Active for Life Online is delivered online, in the comfort of your own home, all for FREE.
     
    Once your registration is confirmed, you simply log into your online account to complete the weekly modules and exercises.
     
    Courses are run four times a year, according to NSW school terms.

    • Space to exercise safely in your home
    • Comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely
    • Non slip, sturdy walking shoes

​Frequently asked questions

 ​Does the program involve a virtual exercise class and if so, when is it held?

No, you will be provided with a home-based exercise program to complete at your convenience. You will receive access to online video recordings of the exercises and also sent a hard copy exercise manual and log book. You will be supported by a trained Phone Coach, on a weekly basis, to build and progress your program.

 ​Can I register for this program if I’m already participating in a regular exercise class?

No, this program is designed for those who do not participate in regular exercise programs (excluding walking groups). This may be a suitable beginners program for those looking to increase their confidence and capacity to participate in a community-based group exercise program.

 Do I need to access and be able to use a computer/tablet to participate?

​Yes, Healthy and Active for Life is an online health program.  To access and complete the health education modules and home exercise program you will require a computer/tablet with internet access.  You will also need to have email access and be confident logging into the Healthy and Active for Life online website on a weekly basis. It is important that you have basic tech skills or support from family or friends to fully participate and benefit from this online program.

 ​Am I provided with a personal trainer who supervises my exercise?

No, there is no face to face contact involved with the program. There is no video conference or virtual contact with the program. The exercises are provided via recorded video and a hard copy manual. You will be allocated a Phone Coach who will contact you weekly to guide and progress your exercise program.
