3.00pm - 8.00pm

Please note, all wards have a rest period between 1.00pm - 3.00pm daily. Visiting during this time is not permitted in the majority of wards.

Visiting times on some wards may vary, please confirm with the ward the visiting times. Wards can be contacted via the hospital switch 9926 7111.

If you need to visit outside of the general visiting hours, please discuss this with the Nursing Unit Manager of the ward.

Children's Ward / Paediatrics

Strict visiting hours are not enforced on the Children's Ward / Paediatrics. Parents are welcome at any time.

Mental Health Inpatient Unit

Weekdays: 12.00 - 1.00pm and 4.00 - 8.00pm.

Weekends: 10.00am - 8.00pm

Carers Accommodation

Carers Accommodation Beds

The RNSH Patient and Carer Accommodation is a short term, emergency accommodation facility, managed by the Social Work Department, at Royal North Shore Hospital. It mostly caters for people who need to travel unexpectedly to the hospital from regional and rural areas.

Rooms are limited and in high demand. When spare rooms are available these can be provided to people travelling from regional and rural areas for treatment at RNSH. The fee is $25 per person, per night applies.

The Isolated Patients Travel and Accommodation Assistance Scheme (IPTAAS) may cover accommodation charges for patients living more than 100km from treatment, and who are unable to obtain specialist treatment closer to home. You just don't smoke around hospitals:

  • Individuals observed to be smoking while on hospital grounds may be fined $300
  • Patients who smoke can receive free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) support during their stay in hospital.
