About the program
 

 

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​The Innovation Program provides funding for ideas that support front line staff to improve patient care.

The program runs three times per year and the top five applicants each round will pitch their idea to a panel of judges in front of a live audience.

Applications are open to all initiatives no matter how big or small. A total prize pool of $50,000 is av​ailable at each event.

The program is aimed at initiatives that:

  • Improve patient outcomes and experience
  • Improve the health of populations
  • Improve staff experience
  • Reduce the cost of care

 

The program process:

  1. Review Innovation Application Checklist
  2. Apply via the online form
  3. You will be notified if you are a top 5 applicant
  4. The top five applicants will pitch their idea to a panel of judges at a Pitch event. The winner/s will be announced at the event, 

 

Who can apply for th​e program?

Any staff member working in NSLHD including Royal Rehab, HammondCare and corporate services who provide care to public patients. All disciplines are encouraged to apply, for example staff working in food services, administration, maintenance and clinical services (medical, allied health, nursing and midwifery etc..).

 

2022 Important Dates:

Round Three 2022 has been cancelled due to a clash with the Annual General Meeting.

Look out for 2023 dates to be posted soon.

What will be supported:

Applications can address any aspect of patient care, facilities, equipment and staff experience. A maximum of $50,000 can be requested.

If you are considering entering an application please make yourself familiar with the Innovation Application Checklist.

The checklist provides guidance for applications relating to:

  • Procurement / Equipment
  • Renovations / Refurbishment
  • Information Commnication Technology (ICT)
  • Intellectual Property

 

What won't be supported:

Funding will not be provided for positions or projects that require on-going funding, unless there is clear evidence of financial commitment from a partner organisation or department/facility.

The Innovation Program will support funding towards short term project staffing. The application needs to demonstrate why an additional resource is required and how the project will be fully sustainable once funding ends.

​Key Assessment Criteria:

The program promotes the 2017-2022 NSLHD Strategic Plan and the concepts of the IHI Quadruple Aim; improving patient outcomes (including experience), improving population health, reducing cost per capita and improving staff outcomes. All applications will be screened based on their potential impact to the Quadrupple Aim in collaboration with the NSLHD Strategic Plan. Please see the Screening Tool for further information regarding the assessment criteria.

When submitting your application please consider how you can engage other facilities/services, agencies, primary health care providers and Non-Government Organisations. Also consider the extent to which your project supports and promotes the CORE Values – Collaboration, Openness, Respect and Empowerment.
