 What we do

Northern Sydney Intellectual Disability Service (NSIDHS) provides comprehensive health assessments for children and adults with intellectual disability, and unmet complex health needs. This service is provided in the clinic and in the community.

 

NSIDHS provides a multidisciplinary health assessment services including health care planning, advice and referrals. The service works with the person's General Practitioner and/or Paediatrician and with other clinicians who will provide ongoing health care to the client, to ensure high-quality health care.

 

The service can provide advice, information, and resources on the management of care, and the needs of people with intellectual disability including:

  • How to make reasonable adjustments in your service or ward
  • Training on use of communication tools
  • Advice and information on management of care for people with intellectual disability; including strategies to better understand and manage a client/patient's challenging behaviours
  • Resources, tools, information on health services.

 

The NSIDHS does not provide routine reviews and will refer clients to the appropriate health services as needed.

Enter via Cranbrook Avenue (on the right side of the building).

The nearest bus stop is at Military Road before Hampden Avenue. Bus routes 100, 114, 144, 225, 229, 230, 243 and 263 stop here.

Neutral Bay Junction bus stop is located a 5 minute walk from the Centre and is serviced by a wider range of buses

There is no designated parking on site. Some street parking is available around the Centre. 

Park in Cranbrook Avenue (mostly 2 hours free parking, some unlimited) or adjacent streets. If using a wheelchair, please inform clinic when booking appointment as the garage will be made available to you (entrance Cranbrook Ave).

 Referral information

Referrals can be made by the client’s treating doctor. Referrals need to be made using the NSIDHS referral form. Please contact the service for more information.

 

Requests for advice and education can be made by health professionals by contacting the service, and to receive the appropriate form.

 

To ensure that our resources are directed towards those in most need we have a selection criteria to determine what problems can be seen by our service

 

To be eligible for the service the child or adult must have an intellectual disability and complex health conditions, with a current unresolved health problem, and health care needs that cannot be met by usual care. The service is provided to clients living in Northern Sydney Local Health District.
