 What we do

Women’s Health Physiotherapy involves specialised assessment and treatment of all disorders affecting the female pelvis and pelvic floor.


We provide treatment for:

  • Postnatally, for third and fourth degree tears (or symptomatic first and second episiotomies)
  • Stress and urge incontinence
  • Bladder/bowel disorders e.g. frequency, constipation
  • Advice regarding pelvic organ prolapse/post operative care after surgery
  • Weak pelvic floor muscles
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pregnancy related pain conditions

 What to bring

  • Relevant images/scans/blood test results (including CT or MRI scan of affected area)
  • List of current medications 
  • Your referral letter from your GP/Specialist/OBGYN

 When to visit us

Your GP or specialist is always your first step in seeking treatment for any condition. You will be referred to our service if your treating doctor feels that your treatment requires the input of a Women’s health physiotherapist.


Once we receive the referral it will be reviewed by the therapist and you will be given an appointment if appropriate.  


Please note that phone calls from the hospital will appear as a private number.  


If you have a scheduled appointment, you will receive a reminder text message.   

 How to visit us

When travelling north along Pittwater Rd, turn right at Coronation St. When travelling south along Pittwater Road, turn left at Coronation Street. Parking is available on site.

Bus route 155 alights in front of the hospital, while routes 151, 160X, 188, 188X, 189X, 190X and 199 stop at the intersection of Pittwater Road and Coronation Street.

The walk from the bus stop at the intersection of Pittwater Road and Coronation street is approximately two minutes or 250m.

Free parking is available at Mona Vale Hospital for all visitors and staff within the designated car parks on the hospital grounds. There is two-hour street parking also available surrounding the hospital grounds.

The Women’s health physiotherapy service is located on level 3 of Mona Vale Community Health Centre.


As you exit the lift on level 3, please turn to your left and take a seat in the waiting area facing the ocean, your therapist will collect you from here at the appointed time

 Referral information

Referrals accepted from: GPs, OBGYN, Midwife or physiotherapist,

 

To ensure that our resources are directed towards those in most need we have a selection criteria to determine what problems can be seen in our clinic. The below information is mainly for GPs and other referring clinicians. 

 

Inclusion Criteria

  • Women residing in the Northern Beaches LGA over the age of 18 with a condition requiring treatment from a women’s health physiotherapist
  • Referrals accepted for under 18 with a guardian to accompany them

 

Out of NSLHD: 

  • Reason must be stated explicitly  
  • Resident of other LHD that does not provide the clinical service 
  • Continuing care of existing condition already managed by NSLHD 
  • Demonstrated complexity requiring services of NSLHD 
  • Compassionate circumstances, e.g. family, proximity, staff 

 

The following information must be included for referral to be accepted:

  • Reason for referral
  • Details of any recent surgery
  • Relevant past medical history and medications
  • Patient and referrer contact details

 

Providing more information will aid the triage process and make it more likely that your patient will be seen in the most timely manner possible. 

Please submit referrals using the eReferral system through HealthLink, which can be accessed through most clinical software systems.

 

Referrals will be triaged and your patient will be notified of the outcome as soon as possible.
