 What we do

Health care interpreters in the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) help our staff, patients and carers understand each other.

Interpreters are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in 120 languages, including AUSLAN (Australian Sign Language). Interpreters can be provided in person, on the telephone or via video conferencing.

Interpreters can only be booked by NSLHD staff members through the WSLHD Health Care Interpreter Service Call Centre. If you would like an interpreter please ask a staff member to organise one for you.

Translated brochures for patients on health care interpreters ‘We Speak Your Language’ are available from the Multicultural Health Service by calling (02) 8968 3410.

If you need an interpreter to telephone one of our health services, telephone the free Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS) on 131 450 for assistance. Tell TIS the language you speak and the name and telephone number of the service you need to contact. TIS is a free service.

  • Patients and carers who do not speak English fluently
  • Patients and carers who are deaf
  • Health care workers
