 What we do

We provide a service for people who will be having elective surgery at Hornsby Hospital

We provide pre surgery testing, risk factors assessment, operation preparation, instruction plan and medical/anaesthetic review to help prepare you for safe & smooth surgical journey.

We review your current medication in view that some of your medications may need to be stopped pre-operatively and ensure that a plan is put in place for your safety.

We perform a skin check prior to surgery if you are undergoing a joint replacement.

 What to bring

Please bring recent blood test results, cardiac investigation/cardiologist report if any, Medicare card and medical history summary from your GP. Please bring your current medication or at least a current medication list. If you do not speak English, please notify booking staff if you require interpreter service.

Turn onto Palmerston Road from Edgeworth David Avenue. The Emergency entrance is just after the Burdett Street Intersection on the right. The Multi-storey carpark is further along after the Northcott Road junction.

Transdev bus 575 travels to Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital from Hornsby and Turramurra railway stations. This picks up and sets down at the front of the Hospital on Palmerston Road. There are no buses to the Hospital from Waitara Station.

The closest railway stations are Hornsby and Waitara. Hornsby is accessible via both the main Northern Line and the North Shore Line. Waitara is on the North Shore Line. Transdev bus service #575 travels to Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital from these stations.

From Hornsby Station – The distance to the Hospital is approximately 1.8km. If you wish to walk please note there are a number of hills. Exit the station on the George Street side via the pedestrian overpass.
From Waitara Station – The distance to the Hospital is approximately 1.5km. Exit the station on the Alexandria Avenue side. This walk is reasonably flat.

Hornsby Hospital has a multi-storey car park that offers 500 spaces and is located at Gate 2 (Palmerston Road). This carpark provides access for all areas across the campus.

Parking fees apply across the whole hospital in accordance with the NSW Health's hospital car parking fees policy and can be accessed here. Concessional rates apply to those who are eligible.

Disabled parking spaces are available in the multi-storey car park and also on Lowe and Palmerston Roads, though street parking availability is very limited. Your valid disabled parking permit must be displayed in your car at all times. Please do not park in restricted parking areas; you could be blocking access to emergency services.

 Referral information

To access this clinic you must have submitted a recommendation for admission (RFA) form which you will have been given by your surgeon to fill out and sent to the hospital in order to place you on the surgical wait list. Please complete the health questionnaire in full before submitting the RFA. The RFA can be submitted by post or in person or faxed.

 Other information

If you are under the age of 16 years old you should be accompanied by a guardian/carers. Carers/family are welcome but please limit to 2.

If you are awaiting hip or knee joint replacement surgery your GP will arrange the following tests to be done to identify health risk & improve health in preparation

  • Anaemia & Iron
  • MSU
  • MRSA
  • HbA1C
  • Skin conditions
  • Smoking
  • Kidney function
  • ECG
  • OSA screen

If you are awaiting thyroid surgery your GP will arrange the following tests to be done before your appointment.

  • Pathology tests EUC,FBC, TFT, CCa++  (depending on your medical history extra pathology tests may be required).
  • ECG
