From isolated to feeling connected

If you’ve landed on this page I imagine you’re curious about what we do at Coral Tree and are looking for something more for your family.

The families who come to our service often do so because they are desperate to change something about the way their family operates. There may be a particular child who is struggling, but so often, all of the family are impacted.

You may be feeling vulnerable and hopeless in your search, but we know it takes bravery and strength to ask for help. Vulnerability is not weakness, it takes courage and is a vital step in helping things get better. Most of the parents and carers we work with are reaching out for help after having tried many things which haven’t stuck. They are often exhausted and overwhelmed, and at their lowest ebb.

We are grateful that the families that work with us put their trust in us, and we are humbled by the efforts made by these families to make the most of an opportunity such as this

Their support networks may have diminished or are non-existent, and sometimes they feel shamed and blamed in their children’s schools and community. Having a child who is struggling can be very isolating. The ‘village’ disappears when it is needed the most.

An opportunity such as the one provided by Coral Tree’s residential program, allows parents and carers to step back from the intensity and reflect on what the whole family needs, a reset, which can help parents and carers gain more clarity around how to best support their children with what they need to grow and become independent.

Every person within the family is viewed as important and their wellbeing is integral to family’s healthy functioning.

As the Carer Peer Worker at Coral Tree, my primary concern is for the wellbeing of the parents and carers. I have a lived experience of kids with mental health struggles, and of struggling as a family. I use myself to offer parents and carers an understanding and validation of their experience. I really want to know about you as a person and what you need to help you get through this tricky time.

As a team we feel incredibly privileged to do the work we do. To help families in their time of need. To, hopefully, make a difference.

We are grateful that the families that work with us put their trust in us, and we are humbled by the efforts made by these families to make the most of an opportunity such as this.

I look forward to maybe meeting you in the future, Thérèse
