We partner with the important people in a child’s world
We partner with parents and carers as the main decision-makers and agents for change when working to address the concerns and needs of children and families, leading to more meaningful and sustainable change.
We believe connection and safety in relationships are what make change possible for children
Connection is the vehicle of change for children. Interventions and strategies for addressing the concerns that bring children and their families to mental health services are effective when applied within a connected relationship with their parents/carers and family, recognising the commitment all of these people have demonstrated in accessing help in the first place. As a service, Coral Tree works to ensure that families feel safe, respected and valued, knowing that our ability to work effectively with them depends on this.
We believe that interventions for children and families should be informed by the best available evidence
Coral Tree only provides interventions that are supported by the evidence-base. For children, the literature supports interventions that position parents and carers as the main agents of change. The very context of Coral Tree – namely, the live-in nature - within which these strategies are delivered and practised creates unique opportunities for change.
We believe that interventions for children and families need to involve practise of skills, as well as reflection and discussion
While facilitating reflection and discussion with parents and carers, and other key figures in a child’s world, is important for sustainable change to occur, behaviour change often requires parents/carers and children to develop and practise new skills. At Coral Tree, we look for opportunities to be with families as they work to practise new skills, whether it is through “hands-on” coaching of parents/carers in the residence or supporting children in the playground.
