New unit aims to help older people maintain their independence.

As part of the ongoing program to provide specialist medical services on the Northern Beaches, a new purpose-built 10-bed Geriatric Evaluation and Management (GEM) Unit is now open at Mona Vale Hospital.

Patients are ​cared for in the 10-bed unit by a team of healthcare professionals including doctors, nurses and allied health clinicians, who will promote an independent lifestyle for people over 65 years.

Involving carers

Care and treatment will be provided ensuring that both patients and their carers remain at the centre of decisions.

Patients will undergo comprehensive assessments and treatments will be specifically tailored to their individual needs.

Education and support for carers will be an integral part of the program.​​​
