What is hand hygiene?
Effective hand hygiene is the single most effective action to reduce healthcare-associated infections. When performed correctly, hand hygiene results in a reduction of microorganisms on hands.
Hand hygiene includes:
Applying an alcohol-based handrub to the surface of hands (including liquids, gels and foams)
OR
Washing hands with the use of a water and soap or a soap solution, either non-antimicrobial or antimicrobial.

Why are masks needed?
Masks are used to prevent the transmission of some infections. Hospital staff may wear a mask for protection from infection. During outbreaks of certain infections, such as COVID-19. there may be times when it is deemed necessary for visitors to the hospital to also wear masks.
