CCLHD provides public health services to the Central Coast region, a growing and ageing population expected to reach 355,000 by 2022. The area is served by two acute hospitals, Gosford and Wyong, two sub-acute facilities, and ten community health centres, in addition to various other community based services. Gosford Hospital is the principal referral hospital and regional trauma centre for the region, whilst Wyong Hospital is a major metropolitan hospital inclusive of medical, surgical, maternity and rehabilitation services.
Central Coast Mental Health (CCMH) provides a broad range of services including promotion, early intervention, prevention and treatment across three population groups; Adults, Older Persons, and Children & Adolescents.
Mental Health Services at Wyong Hospital comprise of a 15 bed Acute Inpatient Unit for Older Persons, a 35 bed General Adult Acute Inpatient Unit, and a 4 bed Psychiatric Emergency Care Centre (PECC). A new 30 bed General Adult Acute Inpatient Unit opened at Gosford Hospital in 2010, which replaced the previous 25 bed Unit. In addition, each hospital includes Mental Health Assessment Teams within each of its Emergency Departments, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry services and Adult Mental Health Acute Care Teams providing acute assessment, acute follow up and transitional follow up after discharge from Inpatient admissions.
Hospital based mental health services on the Central Coast are supported by a network of community teams, including Adult Mental Health Continuing Care, Psychotherapy and Assertive Outreach Teams. A dedicated Specialist Mental Health Service for Older Persons (SMHSOP) also provides assessment, treatment and referral for those over 65 with complex needs, whilst the Children and Young Peoples Mental Health Service (CYPMH) is inclusive of the Children & Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), Early Psychosis (YPPI, 14-24 years), Prevention (COPMI), Headspace and School Link.
