Macquarie Hospital

Macquarie Hospital is a 195 bed mental health facility, offering acute admission services and non-acute recovery/rehabilitation services for adults who have a mental illness/disorder and who are referred from across the Northern Sydney Local Health District.  Hospital Acute and Recovery Units are supported by a diverse range of Day Programs providing social, educational, prevocational and activity programs for inpatients and eligible outpatients.

Macquarie Hospital is co-located with Local Health District departments and government and non-government organisations on approximately 42 hectares of a gently sloping, tree filled site with views to the north, east and the city skyline.  The hospital is fully integrated with the local community.  Shopping centres are located at Cox's and Badajoz Roads, within walking distance for access by patients, visitors and staff.

On admission to Macquarie Hospital each patient is linked to a care coordinator who is a qualified, caring professional, responsible for assisting the patient, their family and their carers during the hospital admission.  Consumer Advocates are employed to support patients throughout their hospital stay and the views of carers are represented at peak hospital committee level.

Staff work in multidisciplinary teams, providing evidence based, best practice clinical care with the positive expectation and commitment that, where possible, patients will move to less restrictive environments along their pathway to recovery.

Education Sessions, Journal Clubs, Case Presentations which provide trainees with opportunity to present & discuss their cases. These can be video linked to Ryde CMH.

Exam Preparation The SCoT is available every Thursday to assist with written and clinical exam preparation. The role is to assist with coordinating training for those based in the Ryde area. This includes regular meetings with trainees to discuss their needs and progress.

Trial Exams are organised to give an opportunity in a simulated exam environment; these include both Writtens and Clinicals.
