We routinely measure height and weight in all children as part of a child’s health assessment.
We provide free health services for children from birth to 5 years-of-age supporting mothers, fathers and children’s carers from Berowra to Palm Beach, Sydney Harbour in the south and the Hawkesbury River in the north through their parenting journey.
Child and Family Health services are free and offered on a one-to-one basis, through group sessions, counselling sessions, telephone consultations and home visiting. Experienced Child and Family Health nurses work in partnership with parents to promote and assess children’s physical growth and brain development, from birth until your child starts school.
Using the blue book or My personal health record (PHR), parents are encouraged to view the ‘Learn the Signs. Act Early.’ screening questions and attend their local child and family health centre for their child’s blue book health checks at 1-4 weeks, 6-8 weeks, 6 months, 12 months, 18 months, 2 years, 3 years and 4 years.
This regular surveillance of brain and physical growth and development, and acting early in response to concerns, optimises children’s development potential.
Child and family health services support families where English is their second language. Healthcare interpreters are available to be booked for all child and family health services appointments.
Following the birth of your baby the first Blue Book check is the 1-4 week check, which is usually in the home. The administrative staff from the Northern Sydney Local Health District Health Contact Centre will connect with you first to confirm and complete your contact details. The Child and Family Health Nurse will then contact you to book your first appointment.
