Nursing advice and support

We routinely measure height and weight in all children as part of a child’s health assessment.

There are times outside regular Blue Book or My personal health record surveillance checks when parents, co-parents, grandparents and/or carers require advice and support for common concerns about their baby, infant, toddler or child. Child and family health nurses can provide this service via face to face, group and telephone or video telehealth sessions.

Topics include:

  • Breastfeeding
  • Sleep and settling
  • Crying
  • Baby weight loss / static weight
  • Brain and physical growth and development
  • Head shape
  • Starting family foods (solids) and drinking from a cup
  • Gross motor and fine motor development concerns
  • Social/emotional concerns
  • Speech, language and communication development
  • Caring for first teeth
  • Toileting
  • Tantrums, toddler behaviour and sibling rivalry
  • Child above or below a healthy weight
  • Child safety
  • Immunisations
  • Family life and wellbeing
