Who we provide healthcare for

We offer primary healthcare information, advice and/or short-term support for young people aged 12 to 24 years, who live, stay, or study across the Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) and may be in stressful situations affecting their health and wellbeing.

What we offer for young people

We provide short-term primary health and wellbeing support for young people seeking assistance, in community settings. This support might include completing a youth health and wellbeing assessment (called HEEADSSS) to identify health and support needs together with a young person.

We can help young people to link in with the healthcare and social support services they need. We can also offer health information and advice about where to get more help with any of the following health topics:

  • Healthy eating
  • Sexuality and gender identity worries
  • Sexual health education (including menstrual health)
  • Contraception and unplanned pregnancy advice
  • Help with managing stress (including bullying)
  • Finding ways to improve sleep

We also offer support with:
  • Worries about drug and alcohol use and where to get help
  • Finding help with family, friend, partner relationships that might feel stressful.
  • Living with ongoing and complex health condition or disability as a young person.
  • Accessing health and support services, particularly if recently arrived to live in Australia

Where the team can provide care

Youth Health

Youth Health nurses can make an appointment with a young person at any health centre that is easiest for the young person to get to.

Wellbeing and health nurse coordinators (based at some public schools)

Wellbeing and Health In-reach Nurses (WNs) are available at some government schools in the district, offering health information and supported referrals to healthcare services for students enrolled at the school, and their families.

Young mob linker

Works together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people to help connect them with the health care and social support services that they need. They can also meet young people in a community health centre.
