Enrolled Nurse Scholarships

​​​Thinking about a career in nursing? Applications for NSW Health Enrolled Nurse Scholarships are now open. NSLHD partners with St Leonards TAFE for  the Diploma of Nursing. When you complete your studies you will enter into a 12-month Transition to Professional Practice program at one of our facilities. GradStart

Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) GradStart 2024 program is offering the opportunity to newly graduated Registered Nurses and Midwives to work across our world renowned, state of the art, diverse, facilities and services located in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.


Nursing and midwifery at NSLHD is responsive to contemporary challenges and trends in healthcare. Our facilities and services are fortunate to have skilled and supportive staff providing a dynamic learning environment, allowing newly registered nurses and midwives to become safe and competent practitioners. Your GradStart experience will be facilitated through interaction with key support people throughout the year, preparing you for the diverse professional world of nursing and midwifery that you are entering.​

How do I apply?


Applications for the 2024 GradStart intake open on Tuesday 20 June 2023 and close on Monday 3 July 2023 via the NSW Health GradStart webpage. You must apply through NSW Health's centralised recruitment process.

NSLHD does not accept newly graduated Registered Nurses and Midwives who have not applied to the NSW Health centralised recruitment process.​

 

When will interviews be held?

 

Interviews will be held onsite at our Royal North Shore campus located in St Leonards from Monday 7 August to Friday 17 ​September 2023.

 

What programs and intakes are available at NSLHD?

 

NSLHD offers multiple intakes across our facilities and services including specialty intakes such as Midwifery, NICU, ICU, Perioperative and Mental Health, Drug and Alcohol (MHDA) as well as our general stream in our Medical, Surgical, Rehabilitation and Palliative Care areas.​

In addition to this, GradStart's at NSLHD are also offered the opportunity to participate in exchange programs such as our MHDA/Acute exchange; Community/Rehabilitation exchange; Metro/Rural exchange (Ryde/Cooma); and our new AYAH/Mona Vale exchange program.

Can I nominate my clinical preferences?

 

You will be asked to nominate your clinical preferences when you are invited to interview with us. When we allocate you to a placement, we will try to take your clinical preferences into account as much as possible.

MidStart

Are you a registered nurse interested in pursuing a career as a midwife?

NSLHD offers opportunities for registered nurses to undertake midwifery education within our maternity services at Hornsby and Royal North Shore Hospitals in a dynamic, rewarding and challenging professional environment.

NSLHD is committed to the provision of collaborative, woman-centred maternity care, where women and their families are supported through pregnancy, labour and birth, and postnatal. Midwifery encompasses primary health care principles as well as emotional and social aspects of birth. 

Our team is committed to support the wellbeing of all families which come through the various models of care. We offer Continuity of Care Models (Midwifery Group Practice, Maternity Antenatal Postnatal Service), Midwifery-led Care, Obstetric-led Care, Specialist Obstetric Clinics, and GP Shared Antenatal Care. Our education teams are dedicated to optimise your learning experience by providing structured and supportive learning opportunities, including working with women during their pregnancy in the midwifery student clinics with 1-on-1 support from a Clinical Midwifery Educator, as well as opportunities to participate in other professional development programs such as Clinical Supervision, Mentoring in Midwifery (MiM), and resilience & team building exercises.

Which university course should I enrol in?

 

Your university application is a separate and additional process. NSLHD partners with the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and Notre Dame for the MidStart program.
