Northern Sydney Local Health District (NSLHD) offers opportunities that will help you learn and further develop your professional skills. We are affiliated with some of Australia's biggest and most sought after universities. Our in-house training is designed to suit today's contemporary public health setting, taught by our highly skilled and friendly educators.

 Health and wellbeing

The NSLHD Health and Wellbeing Plan has been designed with staff in mind and aims to set out a strong commitment to assist them with health and wellbeing. It provides a holistic and simple approach while recognising that we all have different needs and priorities. The plan commits to supporting the health and wellbeing of our workforce and sets a platform to achieve this.

Central to the health and wellbeing program are the four key health pillars: healthy bodies, healthy places, healthy minds and healthy culture.

We are committed to promoting a work culture and environment that supports healthy lifestyles through our health and wellbeing program. The plan does not stand alone as it aligns with our CORE values and the district’s strategic commitment to an engaged and empowered workforce.

 Innovation and research

At NSLHD all team members are encouraged to contribute to our constant efforts to improve patient care through team members’ combined experience and speciality skills. Innovation is fostered through learning opportunities, technology development, healthy team environments and supportive leadership across all levels. We run a Quarterly “Pitch” event which enables any staff member to pitch innovative ideas to seek funding and support from the district. NSLHD focuses and promotes the importance and value of research in the delivery of contemporary healthcare. There are several avenues available for staff to obtain grants and scholarships for research projects and/or professional development. The Kolling Institute sits on our Royal North Shore campus and is the district's leading research institute.

 Communication and engagement

All NSLHD team members have a voice, which is encouraged and supported through a range of channels including engagement surveys. Our district offers opportunities for communication and engagement outside of individual teams/units through initiatives which encourage interaction between staff members of all backgrounds and experience levels, such as staff forums. Examples of our achievements include: LGBTQ+, Disability and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Employee Networks, NSLHD Wellbeing and JMO Wellbeing Committees, Site Health and Safety Committees, and NSLHD Speaking Up for Safety Strategy.

 Employment benefits

There are a range of benefits and conditions that are enticing for our staff and additionally assist staff to balance their work and home life. These include:

  • Additional holidays and leave: We offer unique public sector leave options with monthly allocated days off (ADO), Family and Community Services leave, generous long service leave accruals and parental leave options. This is on top of your four weeks annual leave, sick leave and more!
  • Salary packaging: Salary packaging is an approved way of structuring your income that enables you to use every day bill payments to claim tax free dollars in accordance with Australia Tax Office legislation. All salary packaging benefits are provided on the basis that any tax savings are shared evenly between the employee and the employee's hospital. Simply put, salary packaging allows you to reduce your taxable income, thereby increasing your take home pay (PAYG).

  • Novated leasing: Finance a car through one of Northern Sydney Local Health District's nominated leasing companies and pay the finance and running costs of the car out of your pre-tax salary. You also save on GST when purchasing a new car.
