What are urology cancers?


Genitourinary cancers are found in the urinary system and the male reproductive system. These include kidney cancer and bladder cancers in men and woman, and in men it includes prostate, testicular and cancers of the penis.



Our service​

The urology team at the NSCC manages all types and stages of urological cancers from diagnosis, treatment and supportive care, including assessment of symptoms and side effects.
Patient cases are discussed at a multi-disciplinary team meeting (MDT) to ensure the best possible treatment recommendation is made. The urology team includes surgeons, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurses, pathologists, nuclear medicine physicians and radiologists.
Supportive care services include nutrition, social work and psychology.

  • MDT occurs fortnightly on Thursday evenings
  • Clinics occur on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays across Royal North Shore Hospital and the Northern Specialist Centre.

  • Julia Hunter, Cancer Nurse Coordinator (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)

    Julia Hunter is the urology radiotherapy cancer nurse coordinator at Royal North Shore Hospital. She has been working as a cancer nurse coordinator in urology for 12 years at RNSH. Julia has been a registered nurse since 1999. Julia has a Masters Degree in Cancer Nursing from the University of Sydney. Julia to dedicated to looking after patients with urological cancer and strives to continually improve the care of her patients.

  • Madeleine Tilley, Cancer Nurse Coordinator (Monday-Friday)

    Madeleine is the prostate cancer specialist nurse and urology cancer nurse coordinator at RNSH. With over 9 years experience as an oncology nurse and has a Masters in Cancer. Maddie coordinates the care of patients with a suspected urology malignancy as well as those with early, advanced and metastatic stage disease, working alongside the urologists, and medical oncologists. As an active member of several national cancer nursing organisations, Maddie is committed to improving outcomes for urology cancer patients.
